Double Glazing Grants Outlook 2022
There’s a marked shift on focus towards carbon neutral and the zero carbon targets of 2050. At last there seems a growing momentum towards the global environment and looking after our planet in everything we do.
Double glazing has its part to play but is perhaps not as “in” as some of the newer technologies supported by the Government in the UK so, in respect of double glazing grants outlook 2022 – just what is the future likely to hold?
The Governemnt have tried (and not been to successful in) various initiatives over recent years to encourage green building and, in particular, the installation of enegy efficiency measures. The theory behind such initiatives can’t be faulted – the delivery is what has let them down.
First we had the Green Deal scheme and the, more recently, the Green Homes Grant scheme – both arrived with a bang and disappeared in the same manner!
In fairness, neither we likely to have had a massive impact through the provision of double glazing grants though.
Domestic Renewable Heat Incentive
The grant focus is really on reducing carbon and measures that will significantly improve energy efficiencies. The big one at the moment is Heat Pumps and similar. The Government has announced a grant scheme to support the installation of this technology through their Domestic Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI).
This is all about supporting renewable energy technology and moving away from fosil fuels and natural gas. It’s mainly promoting air source heat pumps but also biomass boilers and solar water heating. Grants of up to £12,000 are available towards the cost, depending on the criteria met.
An air source heat pump basically takes the warmth from the outside air and transfers it to water. This then can be used to heat your radiators, underfloor heating and hot water cylinder.
What’s This Have To Do With Double Glazing Grants
So, what’s this got to do with double glazing grants? Absolutely noting except that it demonstrates the focus the government has on energy efficiency measures. It’s all about renewable energy and energy efficiency measures that are going to make a big difference.
Yes – double glazing is an energy efficiency measure but, in reality, unless you’re looking to upgrade from single glazing to double glazing you’re going to struggle to find any form of grant to help you.
Simple Energy Advice
The Government endorsed Simple Energy Advice website will check the grants available in your area but you’ll be licky to find anything that specifically supports dounble glazing.
That doesn’t mean that it’s a bad time to buy though – it just means the incentives are going to come more from the manufacturers and installers themselves rather than through specific double glazing grants. There’s a greater focus on the industry supporting the market.
Double Glazing Grants Outlook 2022
With regards to the sort of incentives you may expect – these include the following:
- Interest free credit which can be spread over several years
- Price promise to match or better a competitor quote.
- Sale prices, buy one get one free, incentives and offers.
- Recycling schemes to offer savings against the cost of replacement double glazing.
Also consider the fact that interest rates are still very low so, if your considering borrowing against the cost of double glazing or home improvements it could be a great time to do this. The savings you make if you go for improved energy efficiency windows will also go towards the cost of borrowing.
Our advice – double glazing grants or not – shop around and check out prices now … you could be pleasantly surprised with what the industry has to offer!
